Activities and events in 2017
Fashions & Traditions from Around the WorldFashion & Traditions from Around the World were on display at a free event in September, hosted by the Multicultural Women’s Group of Bury St Edmunds (MWG) at the Quaker Meeting House, St John’s Street, Bury St Edmunds.
A static display of colourful clothing, jewellery and headgear was brought to life by women wearing their traditional costume and talking about the culture and traditions the garments represent. The event was supported by Locality Budget funding from Bury St Edmunds Town Council. MWG director Faith Stabler said: “I heard wonderful comments about the standard of the display. With such a magnificent range of dress and fashion from around the world, it did seem a shame to take it down!” To read more about this event, click here

Poetry and Music from Around the World
We hosted an evening of Poetry and Music from Around the World on Friday 30 June at 7.30pm in the Quaker Meeting House, St John’s Street, Bury St Edmunds. A varied programme of poetry and music included works in Italian, French, Sindhi and Russian (English translations supplied), Jamaican and Sufi poetry in English, Russian and Chinese songs and more. The event was supported by Locality Budget funding from Bury St Edmunds Town Council. People enjoyed an evening that was really multicultural. Huge thank you to all the performers, to people who produced a colourful programme, who brought food and served at the evening, who put CDs, took photos and who helped in any other way. We collected £217 for Bury St Edmunds Women's Aid Centre. |

International Women's Day - Wednesday 8 March
We celebrated on Friday 10th of March at our coffee morning, by reading poems in various languages written by, or about women. Authors included Maya Angelou, Pushkin, Dante and Jenny Joseph. Members brought food to share, and one woman had made delightful posies of spring flowers to hand out. |
